Selection and Assessment:

I think “Essays2-01b My favorite place is my nearest place!!” is the most improvement, because I could know that I had to support the sentence thanks to comments. These comments were from my classmates. I also improved the paragraphs. Before my essay was corrected, I didn’t mind the paragraphs. But I found the importance of paragraph. The paragraphs can make someone’s understanding.
Moreover, I had some easy mistakes, so I felt the importance of correcting myself thanks to this essay. So, I think this essay is the most improved essay for me.

BR2-11 Pirates and war!

Now, there are a few pirates in this world, but hundreds years ago, there were many pirates in the world. They were sometimes fighting with other pirates for their money. It was also for their foods. On the ships, they couldn’t get fruits easily, and some people got ill because of the lack of nutrition. Pirates were very bad group, because they got treasure from any other people.
In Japan, pirate’s comic books are very popular. The comic book name is One Piece. I like this comic book very much because the pirates are having a good life with their friends.
In all over the world, Pirates of Caribbean is famous movie. Why the story of pirates is very popular… I don’t know these reasons, but I think these kinds of movie is very exciting and enjoyable. [137 words]

An hour ago, I knew the origin of castle. But now I read the story of Train. And I knew the origin of trains. I had known that the first train was horse. I had believed that the rail was made after inventing the trains. But it is not true, because people carried their goods by carriage on the rail way. The rail way was used as a shortest way at the first time. I was surprised at this fact and I also think the inventor of original train that worked with using steam. [94 words]

I read the story of castle. This story is about the origin of castle. There are many castle all over the world. Each of the castles is different with any other countries’. I knew about how to start the making castles. First castle was made for safety of the lords, but the castle was made of wood. So, most wooden castles were flamed by their enemies. It was not safe. Wooden castles gradually became Stone castle. Japanese castle was famous for these. Especially, Kumamoto Castle is very famous for its guard that made of piled stone. This guard could stop their enemies from entering the castle. To make a castle, it needed long time and many workers. I think it is natural because castles are very big and its structure is very complicated.

I read the story of ships. I have broad ferry twice, but I don’t know any other ships. Today I knew origin of ships, Thousands of years ago, there were on ships or boats. If I was born on one side of a river, that’s where I stayed. But people dreamed of crossing rivers and seas. People had found logs that floated on water, then they made a simple boat. The boat was craved a little and some people could ride but it was too difficult to go across river safely, so people changed their way of how to use the logs. They use it with using puddles. The puddles were very great ideas, because they could steer the logs thanks to the puddles. After inventing these, people made the sails. On the base of these people, we can use good and safety ships!! [144 words]

I read the story of the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. I thought this story is very easy to read because the story is interesting.
This story has variety sights. For example, seen from the age, it was the thing before the Civil War. So, the black people were discriminated by the white people. It was the common cense in the age. Now, I can’t image the situation because American president is black, and he is leading American people and he also led the world.
In the story, Huck helped his friend Jim, but Jim was black, so it became like a theft. He knew it but he did it bravely.
Finally, this story finished with laughing, I think this story has fascinating. [122 words]
I became hungry because of these restaurants!

I watched a restaurant video in YouTube.
It is introducing four restaurants, and each of them is very nice and I want to go. First restaurant is Italian restaurant, and it names Mario Brother’s Pizza and Pasta. The pictures of pizza and the pasta make me hungry. And this restaurant is very near by new street. It takes only three minutes on foot from new street.
Second restaurant is Japanese restaurant, and it names Miyadu. I like Japanese food very much, so I worked part time job at a Japanese restaurant. Moreover, I often go to eat sushi with my friend, sushi is one of my favorite foods. Miyadu said that Japanese food is famous for healthy. I think so too, and the taste is very delicious.
Third restaurant is Mexican restaurant. I couldn’t hear the name well, but I heard the name is Pico de Caro. It may be wrong… I think this restaurant has many spicy food, I felt the pictures are very spicy. For example the Tacos sounds very spicy. I like spicy food and most food are that I have never eaten before, so I really want to go there and I want to taste new food!
Final restaurant is Chinese restaurant, and it may names Mandarin Palace. I think this is the richest restaurant of the four restaurants. I feel all of foods in this restaurant are very luxury for me, so I want to go this kind of restaurant once in my life. I also like Chinese food, so these food attracts me very much. Especially the Beijing duck, Jaozi and the crab looks like very tasty! I became hungry, so I want to go home soon…I go home soon and I will eat dinner! See you! [286 words]

Hello! Today, I’ll tell you about my free time activities. I have two things to do in my free time. First thing is my circle activities. I belong to Gakuseigikai, and it sounds very strictly and very formal, but it is not. My circle is not different with any other circles. Most circle mate like sports, so we often play soccer, valley ball, basket ball, dodge ball and so on. We also like entertainment, so we sometimes enjoy playing bowling, karaoke, drinking and so on. In this summer vacation, we took part in the City parade. Then, we made portable shrine and the motive was Wolf. The day of city parade, we carried the heavy portable shrine in Kumamoto city. We also enjoyed Athletic meet and Takuma festival. This is my circle activities.
Second thing is like my hobby! I like to go to trip somewhere. I’m especially interested in visiting famous place where I have never gone. Two weeks ago, I went to Munakata to meet my old friend. He is the friend when I was a high school student. On the way to munakata, I saw many things and I went through many famouse places! For example, in Ueki, there are Yachiyoza and Ueki hot spring. In Kurume, there are the biggest Buddha in Japan. I was very surprised at the Buddha and I took some pictures. Tosu is famouse for the outlet-mall, and I went there on my returning way. After I went to Fukuoka city, I went to Munakata, and I got very tired because of the long way. I went there by bike, and it was 130 km so long, so it took seven hours one way. However the trip was very nice. When I arrived my friends house, I ate Nabe with him and his girl friend. I had a very good time!! [309 words]
Disagree with the elevators and the tunnels

There is a plan of Yurina and Hikaru’s group. The plan is that they want to put more elevators and tunnels for convenience. Their assertion is these; it is not enough elevators in KGU, so the students sometimes can’t use elevators and some of them can’t be class on time. Handicapped people are also difficult to use the elevator because of the numbers of users.
They also have a plan that they want to make tunnels to defend against the rain and the ultraviolet rays.
I disagree with this opinion, because we there are enough elevators in KGU. Handicapped people also can use the elevator thanks to the students’ kindness. As if usual students couldn’t use elevators, there are some stairs and it will be an exercise for students.
About the tunnel, I think making tunnel is waste of money, because we have own umbrella in rainy days. And we can also apply sunscreen in summer. We don’t need the tunnels.
I think we need to improve KGU for more useful things. Their idea is surely useful but I think there is more useful thing for improving KGU. [188 words]

Our group thinks that we need to improve our university, because there are some problems now. The problem is that there is not entertainment place in KGU. It is a big problem because most university has some attractive points, they usually become their characteristics. I think my university is very comfortable, but I feel something lacking. If there was bowling place, karaoke or theater, the KGU students would be satisfied and enjoy university life more. And in fact, there are some universities that have its bowling place, and its theater. We investigated how the KGU students feel. Thanks to the respondents, we could know what kind of amusements we need. Most people answered these are bowling place and theater. The reason of the bowling place is that almost everyone can enjoy with friends. Another reason is that they can make new friends through playing bowling. About the theater, most people like movie, and some of them go to theater to watch new movies. Movies make people’s mind larger and they can communicate with friends through watching movie. It means the theater will become a nice topic among the students. Some answers will make use of these twice a week, and the others will use once a month. So, I think people who want to use will use at least once a month.
We are going to make these entertainment places next to fourteenth building, because now this place is for parking but people don’t make use of this place so much. And the users need to pay 100 yen to for use these amusements.
However, this plan also has some problems. First problem is money; the respondents worried about how we will correct money for built the entertainment places. To solve this problem, we think a solution. We are going to collect contribution from some sponsors, and the other way is to correct signatures to hand in Student Section in KGU. Another problem is that they are afraid that they may waste of money and waste of time. I also think so, it may be a gamble places and I’m afraid it stands in the way of students studying. So we need to make some strict roles. For example, people who don’t have enough credits to graduate can’t use these.
I’m very interested this plan, because it may be a characteristic of KGU. I hope that this plan is going to improve more! [403 words]
The long way to learn lunguage!

I’m learning our language naturally, and then I want tell you about my language story. When I was a baby, I learned language through being talked my family and other people. Now I’m learning four languages, and three of them are not the mother tongue. In the future, I will speak more variety and I will know more words.

I want to be a good English speaker and I want to be able to talk with foreign people through English in my future. And then, I will tell them about my country, Japan. In order to talk Japanese, I need to study foreign language more.

When I was elementary school student, I was learning Japanese, but sometimes I learned English at the class of Assistant language Teacher in my town.

After that, in my junior high school, I learned English as a second language. Then I was not interested in English, so I was very poor at English. When I became a high school student I got to like English. I learned the skills, for example, Reading, Listening Speaking and Writing.

In high school, I practice reading skill and listening skill mainly by the examination. I always memorize some new words at the introduction of the class. What I did was called word test, and it had 20 questions. Thanks to the activity of the class, I could get reading skill somehow. Although I got be able to get information, these skills were not the skills for telling information

Now, I'm learning a little French and Korean, and my learning language style has changed. Through learning the grammar of other languages, I feel studying a language is connecting with other languages. Some languages have similar grammars. For example, I can learn French is referring to English grammar, and I also can study Korean easily thanks to its similarity to Japanese.

My English learning style also is changing. I'm learning the conversation English skills. In the speaking class, I can learn speaking skill through talking in English and peacticing English presentations. I can practice my writing skill in the Writing class. In this class, I'm blogging on my own blog in English, and commenting on these of other with my classmates. Through these two activities, I'm improving my English skills.

On the other hand, I can know Japanese more because I have the knowledge of contrasting. I can compare Japanese with English, Frtench, And Korean. The features of Japanese are very similar to Korean. Some words are the same. The word yakusoku (promise) is both Korean and Japanese.

By means of, my learning style has changed with my circumstances. From the time when I was born to now, I've acquired the ability of speaking Japanese. On the way of learning Japanese, I saw other languages, and I have learned mainly English. In the future, I will learn more about the skill of speak English and I want to be good at English. We investigated about the entertainment in KGU, and we found some interesting answer!! One is the bowling place because they want to enjoy with friends in their free time.
And Movie Theater is also popular among KGU students. Some of them feel bowling when they don’t have any class. Through playing these amusements, they want to refresh! Some answers will make use of these twice a week, and the others will use once a month. So, I think people who want to use will use at least once a month!
This idea has some advantages! Many of them they can communicate with their friend, and they can also make new friends.
On the other hand it has some problem, amusements are not good for studying and some people may spend much money to play these.
In order to solve these problems, we asked the way to manage the amusement. For carrying on these, students will do a fund-raising campaign. Some students said, we need to collect many signatures.
After the investigation, I knew there are many people who want some amusement in KGU for refresh and for enjoy their university life. [190 words]

Bruce Almighty, He got new power!

I watched Bruce Almighty, and I felt this movie was very funny. Firstly, hero of this story, Bruce was given power by God, so he got be able to control everything, but he couldn’t control mind of people. I think this story has some messages. One of the message is that is too complicated for anyone to control mind as if the controller was god. Bruce got the position he wanted to get but he lost his lover, and he didn’t notice it firstly. When he got new power, he used the power for trivial things. He didn’t use power for people until he was advised by God. Finally, He solved his problem by himself without using power, so I felt it is better to act myself without relying on mighty power. There are many people in this world, and as if I had the power of God, I won’t be happy because the power can’t change people’s mind. And I have to change better on myself
There are also some religious things in this story, but it’s not strict. It is a comedy, so I just enjoyed this story. [190 words]

Hello, do you like trip? I like trip! Today I found two great websites! One is (http://www.japaneselifestyle.com.au/), and the other is http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e623a.html. These websites are introducing Japanese culture and good site for sightseeing. You can know the Japanese Culture through viewing. There are some good points in these sites! I think it is very important to know the nation’s culture, because the knowledge will help your trip and you can enjoy your trip more. After the trips, you can also remember the trip through viewing.

Firstly, I’ll tell you about the Japanese lifestyle. There are many lists of Japanese things, for example, there are Geisya, Sumo, Samurai, Japan festival. When I click on the Geisya, I can see the explanation with some pictures. I can also know the Japanese things when I find some unknown things.

Moreover, I can reserve the hotel that I like, because there are some spaces that I can tell my condition. If I want to go to Japan with my four friends, I can preserve the room that five people use. And there are many hotels cooperate with this site. In addition, I can know the map of Japanese sightseeing.

There are map of popular Japanese spots. These places are Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Fukuoka, Hokkaido and so on. They have their own unique points, and they have each Japanese culture. This site is not only for foreigner, but also for Japanese, because Japanese also learn about Japanese culture.

Secondly, I recommend the Japan sight seeing! This site has contents, and they are Japanese famous prefecture and good places. This site explains about the features and most of them have their picture. As if I don’t have enough money to go there, I can enjoy viewing these pictures. I can also search the good Japanese restaurant that I like. You can also learn about Japanese Language. Japanese is sometimes said that it is difficult to learn because of the variety of literature. The Nobel Committee shouldn’t give the Nobel Prize to Obama because it is too early yet.
There is a positive view that support his way to peace, and he declared that he wants to abolish nuclear weapons. His declaration surely influenced many countries. However, he worked as a president less than one year, and he has not done all his work yet. Now he had many problems, for example, they are financial crisis, environmental problem and so on. He has not solved these problems, so his approval rating is getting less than before. This Nobel Prize is expectation of good way to support his policy, but the expectation may be burden for him, because The Nobel Peace Prize is very special and the people who had done great things for peace could get it. In the names of recipient of the prize, there are Martin Luther King Junior, Eisaku Sato, Mother Teresa and Aung San Suu Kyi. They had made efforts for a long time for peace, so the prize is not light things.

Do you know Mashiki town? Mashiki has a lot of my favorite places, and the town is my hometown. Today, I want to tell you about my three favorite places in my hometown. One of them is tennis court, the other are Communication-Information Center, and my home.
There are many tennis courts in Mashiki and four new courts were made recently next to Mashiki Communication Information center. These tennis courts are made of artificial grass, so it was easy to use.
I played tennis with my friends at the court this summer for the first time. I felt that the court was very good. It is my happiness to drink some juice after playing tennis.
The Mashiki Communication Information Center is also comfortable place because the place is very quietly and there are many desks for studying, so when I have some homework, I often go there and do it. There are some interesting books in the library and mashiki people can borrow magazines. There is also the magazine, English Journal.
Off course, I like my home, especially my room. My house is very comfortable for me, because I can do many things I like. I like listening to pop music, so I can listen to music in my room.
I share my room with my brother and sister. Sometimes I talk about our school things, so we know each other. I know their personality, what they like, what they are doing. I sometimes quarrel with them because of some trivial things. The room is on upstairs and when my mother cooked something, I often smell it and I feel hungry. Then, I go to downstairs and ask my mother what is today’s dinner.
In the downstairs of my house, there are living, kitchen, my bedroom and bathroom. In the living my family are always eating, and most of us spend our free time with watching TV in this room. Kitchen is next to the living, so when I talk with my brothers, my mother talked to us with cooking. She is so chatty that she sometimes stops cooking, and comes to us and start her talking. Hello! In last week, I had speaking class, and I made a group with Yusuke HARA, Tsubasa and Mr.Son. We talked about improving things in KGU. I had thought we need more parking, but when I heard another opinion, I changed my idea. Then, I think theater is more interesting than parking because we can enjoy talking about recent movie with university friends, and it can be also a tool to improve listening skill of English. There is like a theater in the library, but I think if we could watch recent movies, we would go to the theater actively. So, we decided that theater is first thing we want to improve. Second thing is that we need parking because most students who go to KGU by car use the parking that they pay some fee. Today, I went to KGU and I had five classes, so I got very tired. I was so tired that I fall asleep in some classes. In my first period, I was so sleepy that I couldn’t hear the teacher’s voice. In third period, I was sleepy yet, and then, I fall asleep while my teacher uses the audio lingual. Last period was Honors English seminar. Mr. Sato teaches how to debate in some different situation. I plan to follow Hanae’s suggestion“to write brog three days in a week” (Hanae T, 09/07/08 ) because I had written blog in a few day, so I was tired in last semester. Yumi’s suggestion also had a good idea, “to paste a lot of pictures” (Yumi A, 09/07/08 ) because I think just sentences are very plain, pictures will attract readers. Thirdly, I plan to follow Hikari’s suggestion “to use more different words when I write blog” (Hikari U 09/07/08 ) because I can practice my English in this way. Fourthly, I plan to follow Hikaru’s suggestion “to Include introduction and concluding every time” (Hikaru Y 09/07/08 ) because it is good way to practice writing skills. Finally I plan to follow Takako’s suggestion “to listen to my teacher very carefully and if I’m not sure what to do ask directly to my teacher or assistants not my friends sitting near me. Everything has its good points and bud points, and it is like a personality. Today, I’ll talk about four things.
First things are Beer and Wine. I have a question! Which is better? I think beer is better because one of Japanese custom is that Japanese people drink beer when they start drinking. Thanks to beer, they start drinking with good feeling. Another point of view: Wine is better because wine is very tasty and people can enjoy three things of wine. These are smell, taste and history. Older wine get better.
Second things are piano and guitar. Which would be more fun to play? I think piano is better because piano has beautiful sound and I feel very easy when I play the piano. Another point of view: Guitar is nice because guitar has energetic sound. It is also Powerful and rhythmical. The sound has its unique power.
Third things are that YouMe Town and Downtown. Which is better place to shop? I think YouMe town is better because there are most things people need. For example, there are clothes, foods and goods for living in the shop. It is very convenient, so family can enjoy their own shopping. On the other hand, another point of view is Downtown. Downtown is better because there are many kinds of unique shops. Some of them have their original goods and foods. All of them has their own color, so people can enjoy see them.
Final things are Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore. Who would be a better juku teacher?? I think Cameron Diaz is better because she likes Japan very much, so she may know Japanese good things as a foreigner, so I want to be taught by her these things. Another point of view is Drew Barrymore; I think Drew Barrymore is better because she has experienced many things. I have a nuisance; it is a problem of driving school. The problem is that I can’t take the class recently because the shift of my schedule is not good. Hello, today…yesterday!?? I played tennis. These days I didn’t play tennis, so I really wanted to play tennis. Hello! Today, I went to Kumamoto Driving School! I was scolded many times, I became in low spirit. I was very tired, so I need to refresh my mind. Then, I went to Taiyaki land at Musashigaoka. Hello everyone! Today I and my circlemates were making Mikoshi. Today was also shaving bamboos. Through making frameworks of our Mikoshi, we enjoyed talking but after about two hours, we didn’t have any job and I had to go to driving school. I wanted to make more!

At the driving school, I was scolded by my instructor. These days, I was often scolded. I think it is natural thing but I become sad when I am scolded. Today, I drove a car on the uphill. Hello, today I also went to Swiss as the dinner. Firstly when I enter this restaurant, I felt very comfortable and the atmosphere was nice. I took an immediate fancy to this restaurant. I ordered green pasta and green curry. Green pasta was so delicious, and green curry was also good but it was very hot. It was too hot to eat easily; I was surprised at the hot taste because the green curry looks like sweet. I thought it was like a powdered tea. However, it was genuine curry, it was so hot. After eating curry and pasta, I ate parfait, and I was surprised at the taste. The taste was very good, and I had never eaten such a parfait. This parfait became my favorite parfait. Dou you know Katatsu kunchi festival??? In Japan, there are three biggest Okunchi festival. One of them is Karatsu Kunchi Festival. Today I learned about the festival and I knew very surprising thing. The day of the start is my birthday, November 2nd. When I knew the day, I really wanted to go there on my birthday. I think it is a good chance, so when I had much time I want to go there and enjoy watching the festival. The festival began at Yoiyama, and there are many food wagons on the day.

Hello!! Now! I’ll tell you about Fukuoka prefecture, because I want to go there very much but may be I can’t go there. So, I just studied about the prefecture. There are three important cities in Fukuoka. There are Fukuoka city, Yanagawa city and Kitakyusyu city. In Fukuoka city, there are Hakata. Hakata is famous for the food and the place. Hakata foods are Hakata ramen, Torimon Red peppered cod roe and Potato. The famous places are Canal city and Hakata station. In the city has Fukuoka tower and Marine Mid-Way. There are also Hakozaki-gu and Kushida shrine.
In Kitakyusyu, There are Monjiko Retro area, Mekari Shrine, Kokura castle, Matsumoto seicho Memorial and Space world.
In Yanagawa, this place is famous for the going down Yana-River. There are also Kitahara Hakusyu Memorial and Ohana.
In Fukuoka, Dazaihu Tenmangu is also famous for the effect of student who are studying. People believes that the shrine has the special power and the power is good for studying, so in the season of entrance examination, many people go there and pray passing their school they want to go. My friends also went to pray there!
Fukuoka’s famous culture are Hakata-ori, Kurumemoti and Hakata-ningyo. These industry is very famous in Japan. Three festivals are also famous. These are Tamaseseri, Hakata-dontaku and Kuroda-bushi.
There are many popular places in Fukuoka, so if I go there, I can’t go around all place in one day. I need many times to go around. However, I really want to go around someday!!! [254 words]

Today, I went to Karaoke to say “Welcome home”. I said to my friend Kengo. He is my circle friend and he had gone to Korea for a month. He majors in Eastern Asian course now and he took the class of studying abroad, so he went to Korea this summer. Today, I and my other circle friends Mariko, Yukari and Misuzu met him and we enjoyed sing with him. After that, we talked about his staying. He talked his Korean life and I knew a little of the couples affairs in Korea. I was surprised at the custom of Korean people, for example, some of them walk with holding their hands as if they are same sex. I was interested in these culture, so his experience was very fascinating for me. [132 words]

Today, I went to Kumamoto University with my friend. We went there to eat lunch. There were a lot of Kumamoto University students. When we ate lunch, we didn’t know how to take dishes because the way of taking dishes was different from KGU’s way. So, we watched the student’s action and we knew the way. We had to order in front of show window, and after getting dishes we went to buy at a cashier. I ate a beef bowl. It was good taste but it was a little hard. After we enjoyed eating, we walked around Kumamoto University. I thought that there were many trees and I felt that the sounds of music club was so beautiful!! I felt the people in Kumamoto University were calmer than KGU students. On the other hand, KGU students were very funny. I thought each University has each good feature. Hello, I went to KGU to make Omiloshi. Today, I shaved bamboos many times. There were many bamboos that we got yesterday. At first, there were only two people at the making place. Two people were Koji-san and me… I felt it took much time to shave bamboo because we had to shave the bamboo only two people. Then we felt funny, and we laughed. Soon after the talking two circle friends came, so we could good job. After that, two people went away and we were making only two people again. However, two freshmen helped us after that. They are very good guys. And three Koji-san’s friend helped us, so we could enjoy working. [115 words]

Today, I and my circle friends are preparing for the city parade started!! City parade is an event in KGU. Most circle take part in the event. It will hold for Takuma festival. We walk from KGU to Shimo-street with shouldering Mikoshi, portable shrine. Mikoshi is made of bamboo, so we got some bamboo at the house of our senior, Boss. She has nice character and she is very friendly. She was so kind that she lent her hand for us. We could find some good bamboos, and we could get them. However, my blood was eaten by many mosquitoes. We got very tired, but we had to go buck KGU to start making the framework. When we arrived at KGU, it was already 1:30 PM. We expected to start it from 1:00 PM. So, we couldn’t eat lunch. The reason was that Pegasus was so strong and the creature would help his fighting. After the meeting, he got the Pegasus thanks to Athene. Soon after he got it, he could kill the chimera. Hello! Today, I ate sushi at Sushihati in Ezu. The restaurant was originally Sushi-Ichiba but today was Sushihachi. This Sushi restaurant was very reasonable price because most dishes are 88 yen. As if I ate ten dishes, it price is 880 yen. Today, I ate about ten dishes with a person. When we enjoy eating, I noticed a strange dish!! The dish was no neta(raw fish), it was only syari(rice of sushi). It was very funny, so we laughed at it. I think this sushi restaurant’s sushi is delicious, so you should go there if you wanted to eat sushi!! [100 words]
